Professor Nicholson is a pioneer of the field of metabolomics and systems biology, and has had significant impact on the evolution of personalised healthcare. He has developed novel integrated statistical and spectroscopic methods that have contributed to understanding physiological and pathological processes and identifying disease biomarkers. He founded the UK National Phenome Centre in 2012, and has since supported a network of state-of-the-art research facilities around the world focused on precision health and metabolic phenotyping, advancing our understanding of the human phenome, and its role in personalised healthcare and nutrition.
Nicholson has over 800 publications in top-tier journals and has received numerous awards, including the Gold Medal for Analytical Chemistry from the Royal Society of Chemistry, and the Semmelweis-Budapest International Prize for Biomedicine, and he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the UK Academy of Medical Sciences, and Honorary Lifetime Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians.
