The lecture will begin with the China’s first modern municipal hall establishment in Guangzhou more than a century ago and the initiation of the city’s modern urban planning. Reviewing and examining the turning points of socio-economic development at different stages, the roles played by urban development strategies and comprehensive macro-planning will be illustrated . On this basis, it will further introduce the current planning system framework and implementation cases following the national territorial spatial planning reform in 2019. Finally, in connection with the future city development trajectory, it will discuss several trends of planning in the future.
Dr. Huang Dingxi, is now Chief of General Administration Office, Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Planning Natural Resources (Oceanic Bureau). He is Professor-level Senior Planner, and Registered Planner and a Council Member of the Urban Planning Society of China. He previously served as Vice President and Secretary-General of the Guangzhou Urban Planning Association.
Dr. Huang has long been in charge of the formulation and research of Guangzhou's urban development strategy, master plan, key area planning, and major transportation hub area planning, as well as the formulation of planning public policies. He was the chief writer of Guangzhou's first local voluntary review report on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) submitted to the United Nations.
His research focuses on urban land use planning policies, sustainable development, ecological and environmental planning, big data application, healthy cities, marine economy, and the coordination of transportation and land use. He has published more than 30 high-level papers and won many international and domestic outstanding planning and design awards.
