Public Research Seminar by Sustainable Energy and Environment Thrust, HKUST(GZ) - Modulating dynamic electrode reconstructions for electrochemical energy applications

10:00am - 11:30am
W4-202, Guangzhou campus (Zoom ID: 968 3767 9242 Password:241213)

Electrochemical cells, including fuel cells, electrolyzers, and batteries, operate in a complex environment. During the cell running, their electrodes may undergo in-situ changes in their physicochemical properties. This dynamic reconstruction process may generate ever-changing electrochemical active species and reshape the electrode-electrolyte interface, thereby determining the cell performance (e.g., activity and stability). However, rigorously understanding and rationally controlling dynamic electrode reconstructions remain challenging. Here, we report our study on monitoring and modulating dynamic reconstructions for typical layered electrodes (electrocatalysts). Our research methodology and findings show promise in guiding the design of high-performance electrodes in various electrochemical energy applications.

講者/ 表演者:
Dr. Jian WANG
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Prof. Wang is currently an assistant professor at School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong. He obtained his BEng degree in Energy, Power System, and Automation Engineering from XJTU (China) in 2013, and PhD degree majoring mechanical engineering from HKUST in 2018.

His study focuses on characterizing & modulating electrochemical cells for sustainable energy conversion and storage applications, e.g., fuel cells, electrolyzers, and batteries. His led DEEP (Dynamic Electrochemical Energy Process) research group develops several in-situ experimental setups to operando probe electrochemical cells across multiple scales, establishes dynamic property-performance relationships for several types of energy materials in electrochemical cells, and designs several high-performance electrode materials with application prospects. Till now, Prof. Wang published over 90 peer-reviewed journal papers with an H-index of 39, over 40 of them are corresponding/first-author papers including Nature Catalysis, Nature Energy, Energy & Environmental Science, Chem, etc. Prof. Wang once obtained the NSFC Excellent Young Scientist Fund (overseas) and he is recognized as Stanford's top 2% scientist (career) in energy field.
