A Journey from Gastroenterology to Oncology
 

Rashid Lui is currently an Associate Professor of Practice in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Medical Oncology, and Clinical Professional Consultant in the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He is the only physician in Hong Kong accredited in the specialties of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Medical Oncology, Genetics and Genomics (Medicine) and Advanced Internal Medicine. He has research interests in early-onset digestive cancers, cancer genetics, and onco-gastroenterology.

Dr Lui graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, CUHK with Distinctions in Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Microbiology. He has received various accolades, including the Young Investigator’s Award (2nd Prize) at Asian Pacific Digestive Week 2018, Dr Stanley Ho Medical Development Foundation Scholar at the Centre for Personalised Medicine, University of Oxford, United Kingdom, Distinguished Young Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine 2019, 8th Youth DreamMakers Award 2023, and the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Foundation (JGHF) Short-term Training Fellowship at the Cancer Genetics Service, National Cancer Centre Singapore in 2025. He holds the distinction of being the only physician to have represented Hong Kong in both the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Global Leadership Program – Asia Pacific and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Leaders Generation Programme Asia.

He has published in peer-reviewed journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Medicine, Gastroenterology and Gut, and has an h-index of 30 (from Google Scholar). Internationally, he is a Member, Colonoscopy Quality Taskforce of the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO), Member, Asia Pacific Working Group on Colorectal Cancer Screening, Board Member, Asia Clinical Trials Network for Cancer (ATLAS), and Founding Member, Inherited Cancers Network (ICaN) Asia. Locally, he is currently the President of the Hong Kong Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (HKASLD), and Founding Vice-President of the Hong Kong Society of Digestive Oncology (HKSDO).
