When the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT) first emerged, its enhanced sensing capabilities marked a significant paradigm shift away from traditional computer networks. Connectivity and sensing quickly became indispensable in the design and implementation of ubiquitous IoT devices, spanning a wide spectrum from autonomous vehicles, wearable electronics, to drones and satellites. In this talk, we will explore several engaging topics related to ubiquitous connectivity and sensing in IoT, including: 1) to speed up the critical IoT with lightweight control, 2) to advance the massive IoT with Inevitable Interference, and 3) to better precept the PHY world with visible light sensing. Furthermore, we will delve into potential future directions associated with Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC) for IoT.

Dr. Lu Wang
Shenzhen University

Lu Wang joined Shenzhen University in June 2015, where she is now an Associate Professor of College of Computer Science and Software Engineering. She received the B.S. degree in communication engineering from Nankai University, Tianjin, China, in 2009, and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong, in 2014. Before joining Shenzhen University, she was a postdoctoral research fellow in the Computer Science and Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Her research interest mainly focuses on the design and implementation of Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN), spanning from novel physical layer to algorithm design to the system architecture. She is also interested in Mobile Sensing, and leverages machine learning and data analytics related techniques to deal with sensing related problems. She has been recognized as Guangdong Special Support for Young Talent (“广东特支计划科技创新青年拔尖人才) and Overseas High-Caliber Personnel (深圳市海外高层次人才). She has also received several academic awards for her outstanding work in the field of wireless communications and mobile computing, including Excellence Award of China Patent Awards 2022, Excellence Award of Guangdong Patent Awards 2021, the First Prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Progress Award 2018, and Second Prize of Guangdong Technological Invention Award 2017. She is the co-recipient of Best Paper Award of IEEE SECON 2018, IEEE MSN 2016, IEEE GlobeCom 2012 and IEEE ICPADS 2012. She was also awarded ACM SIGAPP China Rising Star in 2020 and ACM-HK Prof. Francis Chin Research Award in 2013.
