We are witnessing an exciting time for future wireless networks with the development of 5G around the word. Nonetheless, it is anticipated that with the significant 5G penetration, more and more use cases for commercialization will require the emergence of 6G by 2030 to meet the drastic growth of connection demands. Semantic communications is well recognized as a promising technology to further improve system efficiency, which is a revolutionary communication paradigm that goes beyond Shannon information theory and focuses on the accurate transmission of semantics instead of symbols. In this talk, the vision on sematic oriented wireless communication systems and the paradigm shifts that come along will be shared. Then, the theoretical aspects of semantic communications will be introduced. Finally, the existing work on the artificial intelligence enabled semantic communication system will be discussed.
