About EMSD
The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD; Chinese: 機電工程署) is a Hong Kong government department responsible for inspection and enforcement of operation and safety of many electricity and gas installations; railways and trams; lifts and escalators; amusement rides; working platforms on building sites, and many other diverse areas. EMSD has two functional arms - Regulatory Services and Trading Services - to provide E&M services for enhancing the safety and quality of life of Hong Kong. Our Regulatory Services arm operates a number of divisions each specializing in different areas of mechanical safety, gas safety, electrical safety, railway safety, energy efficiency and utilities monitoring. The Electrical and Mechanical Services Trading Fund (EMSTF) provides a wide range of E&M engineering services to over 80 government departments / bureaux and public bodies in Hong Kong through five Strategic Business Units (SBUs): Boundary Crossing Facilities and Transport Services Division; General Engineering Services Division; Health Sector Division; Municipal Sector Division; Security and Vehicle Services Division.
About the EMSD Engineering Graduate Training Scheme (EGTS)
The EMSD Engineering Graduate Training Scheme (EGTS) has been in operation for more than 30 years to provide professional engineering training for engineering degree graduates to qualify as assistant engineers, and eventually attain the necessary qualifications as professional engineers after acquiring sufficient experience. The scheme has successfully trained more than 500 engineering professionals who are now engineers and/or at management level in EMSD, serving the public of Hong Kong.
