Since human beings created knowledge, stories have been an important carrier of culture and civilization. They can also facilitate the formation of soft power for national governance. Stories have played an irreplaceable role in knowledge transmission, culture building, social cohesion,  and civilization creation. Each stage in the history of human development has its own stories. They play critical roles in shaping ideology, culture, national character and communication(both internal and external). This lecture shall discuss the essential features of good stories, their charm, their social functions, and their evolution, with illustrative examples of vivid stories. More serious theories of communication shall be referenced to enlighten our efforts in telling good Chinese stories.
