[GREAT Smart Cities Friday Seminar Series] - Sustainable Built Environment for Everyone, Everywhere
Buildings and activities in buildings contribute towards a significant share of carbon emissions, energy and material consumption. In face of climate change, air pollution, population growth and increasing demand for built asset, the World Green Building Council has been forging ahead to advocate green buildings and sustainable built environment for everyone, everywhere. Embracing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, there are three major strategies, notably Health & Well-being, Advancing Net Zero, and Circular Economy.
Starting from global green building movement, this talk will focus more on Health & Well-being aspects of buildings, with examples drawn from local green building movement in Hong Kong, and detailed experience sharing with illustrations from the planning, design and construction of public housing developments in Hong Kong.
Starting with urban planning at macro-scale to domestic units at the micro-scale, a systematic approach is adopted to apply passive design for development of green and healthy buildings, alongside Research & Development, community engagement, carbon reduction exercises, adaptive re-use of useful resources, and site-specific design, maximizing development potential with livability, human comfort and sustainability.
