[GREAT Smart Cities Friday Seminar Series] - The Latest Semantic AI development on Building E&M Facilities in Hong Kong
The adoption of AI in many traditional businesses were resulted as a revolutional change on their ecology and hence, created new values. However similar phenomenon was not exactly happening in the building E&M (electrical and mechanical) industry in terms of its scale and speed. The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) handles over 8,000 public facilities in Hong Kong, facing the challenges on energy and facilities performance, is looking into the feasibility of wider and deeper use of AI on building E&M.
In recent years, EMSD together with AI experts, carried out field experiments by using Semantic AI approach. In this presentation, the approaches, experiences, results and some pilot applications will be demonstrated. Meanwhile, an event called "Global AI Challenge for Building E&M Facilities" had been organized to promote the wider adoption of AI in the industry. The achievements from the event will be shared and, more importantly, the way forward will be suggested.
Mr. Patrick SO, Senior Engineer of EMSD, participated in digital transformation for the Department, specifically leading on the Big Data and AI development on Building E&M. He and his team established the first Regional Digital Control Centre (RDCC) and EMSD AI Platform. He has also participated in the co-R&D with experts in the field from global and developed the Semantic AI which lay the essential foundation to achieve E&M digitization and building a smart city.
Mr. Calvin LEUNG is currently the Building Services Engineer of the EMSD, Government of the HKSAR responsible for safety enhancement and innovation technologies of lift and escalator installations. He also involves in developing predictive maintenance solutions using big data technology and artificial intelligence (AI). He is a corporate member of HKIE and a Chartered Engineer under CIBSE.
