Abstract

Electro-optic modulators serve as core functional devices for electro-optical signal conversion in high-speed optical communication systems. Crystal materials with strong electro-optic effects constitute the fundamental material basis for the efficient conversion of high-frequency signals and the breakthrough of bandwidth bottlenecks in ultra-high-speed optical transmission. Improving the intrinsic electro-optic coefficient of crystal materials and reducing the half-wave voltage of devices are the core scientific challenges that urgently need to be addressed in the field of optoelectronic materials.

Combining theoretical analysis and computational simulation methods, this report systematically elaborates the physical mechanism of electro-optic effects from two microscopic dimensions: electronic polarization response and lattice phonon relaxation. It further identifies the key intrinsic material parameters that determine the macroscopic electro-optic coefficient, providing a solid theoretical foundation for the targeted design and performance optimization of high-performance electro-optic crystals.
