Data to Impact: The UK Population Approach to Informing Improvements in Neonatal Care

Dr. Cheryl Battersby is an NIHR Clinician Scientist, Clinical Associate Professor and Neonatal theme lead at the Centre for Paediatrics and Child Health (PaeCH), Imperial College London. She is also an Honorary Consultant Neonatologist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Her research focuses on using population data to improve outcomes for preterm babies. She leads the UK 22-week study and the NIHR supported NeoWONDERprogramme which has undertaken a novel linkage between population neonatal health and education data.

She is the British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BAPM) Honorary Secretary, Chair of the BAPM Nanopreterm Specialist Interest Group, Chair of the BAPM Extreme Preterm Framework and Co-chair of the BAPM Haemodynamics Framework. She was the past Chair of the BAPM Data and Informatics Group and was also a member of the working group for the BAPM Palliative Care Framework. She is a panel member of the NIHR Team Science Selection Committee and NHS Research Advisory Group. In 2021, she was awarded the RCPCH Simon Newell Early Independent Researcher Award, recognising her achievements and strong commitment to training the next generation of researchers. She is co-founder and consultant lead for NeoTRIPS, the BAPM-affiliated initiative set up to provide resident doctors research and quality improvement experience and training.
