Civil Engineering Seminar - Design and Construction of Deep Cement Mixing Works in Land Reclamation
Non-dredged reclamation and foundation construction in association with the Deep Cement Mixing (DCM) method have been introduced to Hong Kong in recent years. In this seminar, the speakers will share their experiences in the design and construction of DCM treatment. A case study will be examined with discussion on finite element analysis results. Preliminary field data will also be presented, outlining the governing factors of DCM strength. Current challenges regarding the design and construction of DCM treatment will be put forward for discussion.
Mr Anthony Wong is currently a Resident Engineer at AECOM, providing full-time supervision for Tung Chung New Town Extension – a mega-scale reclamation project utilising the DCM method. His expertise includes soft ground engineering, foundations, and retaining systems. Anthony graduated from Imperial College London with an MEng degree in Civil Engineering. He is a Chartered Engineer and a member of Institution of Civil Engineers. Anthony has received multiple local and international recognitions and awards including the HKIE Innovation Award 2021 (Young Member Group), the President’s Protégé of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and Champion of the Institution of Civil Engineers Communications Competition. Currently, Anthony is pursuing a part-time PhD degree at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with state-of-the-art research on DCM.
Dr Zack Chan obtained his Ph.D. and BEng degree in Civil Engineering from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Dr Chan is specialized in shallow foundation design, soft ground engineering and DCM ground improvement. He is currently an Assistant Engineer at AECOM for shallow foundation design on DCM-treated ground for underground structures in the Third Runway System, as well as public housing projects in the area of Tung Chung New Town Extension.
