Treehouse architecture - Childhood Imaginaries to Incumbent Eco-Realities. The Future of Work is Changing - Are you ready?

Net-zero vertical cities are the pathway to our sustainable future. “Treehouse” is a future-ready workplace concept designed for the climate generation and it is the winning design in the “Future Building” category of the Advancing Net Zero (ANZ) Ideas Competition organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council. The transdisciplinary design process of Treehouse was led by Behave in collaboration with Ronald Lu & Partners (RLP). A wide spectrum of ANZ strategies has been reviewed for their potential positive environmental, social, and economic impacts versus cost, technical, regulatory, and cultural challenges. An adaptive approach is conceived for Treehouse to reduce and offset its whole life carbon. The talk is going to be delivered by two senior members from Ronald Lu & Partners, Mr. Anthony CHEUNG, Director / Vice President (Design) for Mainland China / Head of Studio, and Mr. MK LEUNG, Director of Sustainable Design / Principal Behaviourist, Behave. Mr. Anthony Cheung has extensive knowledge and expertise in a diverse range of projects, including those that involve re-stitching urban fabrics and reshaping the skyline and harbourfront of Hong Kong and several cities in Asia. He is highly knowledgeable in complex Transit-Oriented Development and has been involved in several notable projects, including Shanghai TODTOWN, Wuhan Chow Tai Fook Finance Centre, Zhuhai Unipark, Beijing City Next, and Shenzhen Pinghu Comprehensive Development. He has authored the book "High Density Transit Orientation Development" and is a member of the Harbourfront Commission of Hong Kong Special Administration Region. Mr. MK LEUNG and his team has delivered numerous high-profile projects, including CIC Zero Carbon Park, a vertical campus for THEi, Treehouse – the firm’s winning entry in the inaugural Advancing Net Zero Ideas Competition, and many consultancy studies on low-energy residential building design, infrastructure design and construction under extreme temperatures, sponge city design, and others. He received the SIA-Uniseal G-Architect Laureate Award in 2014 from the Singapore Institute of Architects. He is renowned globally for his expertise and integrated skills in sustainable, net-zero building design projects. He is presently an advisor to the Environment and Sustainable Development Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, a co-opted member of the HKGBC's Sustainable Development Committee, the second Vice Chairperson of the BEAM Society Limited's Technical Review Committee, and a member of the Advisory Committee of the GREAT Smart Cities Institute at HKUST since 2022.
