This seminar describes a clinician-led approach to translating bedside problems into scalable kidney care solutions. Using examples from AI-guided lung ultrasound for fluid assessment, light-based diagnostics for peritoneal dialysis–associated peritonitis, and continuous glucose monitoring in dialysis, it illustrates how unmet clinical needs can be transformed into clinically meaningful innovation. The focus is not technology alone, but the disciplined pathway from problem definition and interdisciplinary co-design to clinical validation, implementation and measurable patient benefit. The talk will discuss the opportunities—and practical challenges—of building a learning health system that connects clinicians, engineers, data scientists, allied health professionals and patients. It will also outline a vision for an academic renal innovation platform that supports responsible AI, pragmatic evaluation and equitable adoption across academic health systems.
