Public Talks — Mapping East Asia in Context

The talks will discuss maps of East Asia created between 1300 and 1800 by Chinese, Korean, and European mapmakers, and explore how cartographic knowledge circulated with East Asia and between East Asia and Europe. There will be four captivating talks in this series:
1. Mapping for Money, Mapping for Influence: Western Maps of China and the Interplay between Jesuit Missionaries and Dutch Publishers (1584-1735) / Dr. Marco Caboara (HKUST); December 6, 2023; 9:30am - 11:00am.

3. Re-Imagining the World: When Global and Administrative Mapping Intersected (ca. 1555-1655) / Professor Mario Cams (KU Leuven); December 8, 2023; 9:30am - 11:00am.
4. Kunyutu 坤輿圖 and Terrestrial Globes: Reproduction of World Geography in the Early 18th Century Qing Court / Professor Lin Hong (Shanghai Normal University); December 8, 2023; 11:15am - 12:45pm
