Background

The Greater Bay Area STEAM Excellence Award (HKSAR) has been organised by the Hong Kong New Emerging Technology Education Association (HKNETEA) since 2019. Its primary goal is to enhance students' creativity and innovation, while recognising young talents in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). This award also acknowledges the dedication of schools and teachers committed to advancing STEAM education.

 

Participation Streams

Applicants can participate in the following streams:

  • Primary School
  • Junior Secondary School
  • Senior Secondary School
  • Tertiary
  • Postgraduates
  • STEAM Teacher
  • STEAM School

Student participants can join individually or in small groups of up to five members. Students from mainland schools are also invited to participate, either independently or through school nominations.

 

Objectives of Each Category

ICT Category

Encourages students to develop digital literacy and leverage technology for effective communication, data management, and problem-solving. Applicants must present their work clearly, detailing their problem-solving approach, the technologies used, and the impact of their solutions.

Life and Health Category

Focuses on developing innovative solutions to health-related challenges using scientific principles and emerging technologies. Students are encouraged to explore personal health, nutrition, and wellness, addressing real-world health issues through research and project design.

New Materials and New Energy Category

Aims to inspire students to create innovative ideas and applications involving emerging materials and energy sources. Applicants should consider the environmental impact and propose novel technologies and processes for a sustainable future.

Science Video Category

Encourages creative communication of scientific concepts to enhance understanding and engagement. Participants should disseminate scientific knowledge, advocate the scientific method, and showcase research outcomes using new technologies in artistic creations.

Rotary Water Purification Category

Invites students to develop effective methods for water purification, raising awareness of clean water scarcity. Applicants must combine emerging technologies to create low-cost water treatment solutions.


General Eligibility Requirements

Participants should be aware of best practices and case-based experiences as outlined by the Office of Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data. In case of any disputes, the organiser's decision will be final and binding.

 

Participation Details 

Tertiary Stream

  • Eligibility: Local registered vocational/tertiary students (Higher Diploma, Associate Degree, Bachelor), including graduates from the academic year 2025-2026. Non-local students are welcome.
  • Project Format: Individual or group (up to 5 members).
  • Submission: Essay (1,500 words), short video, or PPT.
  • Administration Fee: Free

 

Postgraduate Stream

  • Eligibility: Local registered tertiary students (Master and PhD), including graduates from the academic year 2025-2026. Non-local students are welcome.
  • Project Format: Individual or group (up to 5 members).
  • Submission: Essay (2,000 words), short video, or PPT.
  • Administration Fee: Free
