UGOD Seminar | Urban Health Geography Research in China: Actions and Challenges
The field of urban health geography has gained significant attention in China, with geographers actively engaging in research to address the complexities of urban health. This presentation outlines the current state of urban health geography research, highlighting the challenges and future directions. The characteristics of cities, such as high density, mobility, and complexity, present challenges in urban health geography research. Some recent research in this topic will be introduce and some research directs will be discussed.
Suhong Zhou is a Professor and Ph.D. supervisor at the School of Geography and Planning, Sun Yat-sen University. She serves as the Deputy Chair of the Behavioral Geography Committee of the Geographical Society of China, a council member of the Urban Planning Society of China, and a board member of the China Urban Science Research Society. Additionally, she is the Deputy Director of the Big Data Committee within the China Urban Science Research Society and a registered expert in the Subcommittee for Sustainable Mobility and Transportation (ISO/TC268/SC2) of the International Organization for Standardization's Urban Sustainable Development Technical Committee. Professor Zhou is also an editorial board member of multiple domestic and international academic journals.
In recent years, her research has focused on urban spatiotemporal behavior, urban safety and health, and urban geographic information science. She has published over 250 papers, obtained eight authorized national invention patents, and registered over ten software copyrights. She is responsible for a national-level first-class undergraduate course and has received support through the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. Additionally, she was selected as a representative at the 10th National Congress of the China Association for Science and Technology and has led projects awarded the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award (Second Prize), the Golden Guangdong Natural Resources Science and Technology Award, the National Youth Geography Science and Technology Award, and the "Most Beautiful Geography Scientist" title.
