Public Research Seminar by Advanced Materials Thrust, Function Hub, HKUST(GZ) - MXene Stack or Nanosheet: Choosing Suitable MXene Structure for Batteries and Beyond

10:00am - 11:00am
W4-202 (ZOOM Meeting ID:960 3806 0910 Password:592492)

MXenes are a group of two-dimensional (2D) transition-metal carbides, nitrides and carbonitrides, which have been used in many applications owing to their large surface area, high conductivity, good hydrophilicity and flexibility, etc. In addition to the familiar structure of dispersed nanosheet, MXene can present another accordion-like structure with stacked nanosheets that is not usually seen by most 2D materials. As for the same kind of MXene, the properties of MXene stack and nanosheet can be varied in certain condition and environment, though they have identical constituent and crystallinity. Thus, choosing MXene with suitable initial structure is the first and essential step to release its potential in the target application. Herein, several representative application examples based on MXene (e.g. battery and electronics) will be given and discussed, which indicate the direction for making the good use of MXene stack and nanosheet, respectively. It is expected that the application boundary of MXene will be further expanded when the structural advantages of MXene stack and nanosheet are skillfully used.
