Guest Seminar - A Journey across Multiple Length Scales: From Molecular Frameworks, Mesoscopic Constructs to Functional Devices

2:30pm - 3:30pm
Room 5560

Achieving novel device functions often involves material design across different length scales. This presentation would give a journey of material and device design from molecular to macroscopic level: (1) covalent organic frameworks formed by weaving organic threads that show high flexibility and metal-organic frameworks made into glassy states and shows microporosity; (2) mesoscopic constructs of molecular frameworks and nanomaterials where nanoscopic metal-organic framework crystallites enclose plasmonic nanocrystals to give synergistic functions; (3) generic electroluminescence device applicable to various molecular materials and quantum dots that can give mid-IR to UV light emission. Finally, the presentation would discuss the perspective of using the glassy metal-organic framework for solid-state ionics.
