Abstract

Astronomy and deep space science are disciplines primarily driven by observations. Significant improvements in the precision and capabilities of observation equipment will greatly advance human understanding of the universe, including several major challenges facing the 21st century such as dark matter, dark energy research, high-redshift universe, exoplanets, and the origin of life. The solution to these significant scientific problems and breakthroughs in frontier research increasingly relies on the continuous improvement of observational equipment capabilities, including increased sensitivity, spectral resolution, time resolution, angular resolution, and expanded band coverage. These observational devices require powerful and excellent performance focal plane instrument systems, including large field-of-view cameras covering the visible to infrared bands. Analyzing major large field-of-view survey telescopes and wide-field spectroscopic imaging telescope projects and corresponding scientific-grade cameras worldwide, as well as the current status and requirements for telescope construction in China, the key technologies and achievements of scientific-grade CCD cameras developed at USTC is introduced, including the development of WFST mosaic primary camera and the situation of key technology research for the search for Earth 2.0-ET occultation survey project CCD cameras. Then, based on the needs of infrared astronomical observations in China, the current status of infrared telescopes is analyzed. Starting from the measurement of the infrared sky background, the development of sky background measurement instruments and cameras are introduced with their applications.
