Over the past four decades, the world has experienced rapid urbanization, with urban population growth and land expansion having a substantial and far-reaching impact on resources, the environment, ecosystems, and climate. Urban growth models are essential tools for understanding urban evolution, analyzing urban impacts, and predicting development trends. This presentation will review the research progress of urban growth models, with a focus on the role of cellular automata, machine learning, and other methods in urban growth simulation. It will also discuss the shift from urban land-use change simulation to three-dimensional morphological simulation and provides examples of applications of related models.
