The workshop will teach participants how to tap dance and explore the history and development of the art form through videos and lectures with Ms. Mandy Petty, a professional artist who has been involved in the performing arts industry for over 40 years and has received the 25th Hong Kong Dance Awards Lifetime Achievement Award. Participants will learn to use their shoes to create various sounds and rhythms, as well as different dance combinations.

This is a HMAW1905-recognized event in the “Personal Enrichment & Community Service” category under the "Self-directed Experience" of HMAW1905: Behavioral Foundations of University Education: Habits, Mindsets, and Wellness. To receive 12 hours, you must attend the event in full and miss no more than 10 mins.

REMARKS

  • Students should bring along their own tap shoes to class.
  • Participants are required to submit a refundable deposit of HKD 200 (Cash only), which will be returned upon successful completion of ALL classes. If the participant cannot attend all lessons, the deposit will be forfeited and used to offset the workshop operation expense.
  • Interested participants are required to submit an online application and complete the deposit payment by visiting Room 203, Shaw Auditorium (Business Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:30am - 12:45pm, 2:00pm - 5:00pm) within one week after their registration / before Sep 10, 2025 (whichever is the earlier) in order to secure their spot.
  • Quota is limited, if the deposit is not received by the above mentioned date, your spot will be released to applicants on the waiting list.
  • The Shaw Auditorium Unit reserves the right in its sole discretion to make changes to the event program without prior notice.

Mandy PETTY

Mandy PETTY has been involved in the Performing Arts industry for 40 years, as a performer, teacher, choreographer, director, and adjudicator. Over recent years, she has added administrative duties to her portfolio, specifically at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, which included appointing staff, arranging scheduling, and supporting students in their development from student to professional, as well as hosting conferences and conducting feasibility studies for future programs. She believes that she has accumulated the required skills to enable her to work in a supervisory role within a team in a large company, and she feels that her sunny disposition, along with her dedication and strong work ethic, serves her well as a leader. She has professional contacts in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Manila, New York, and the UK, having been based in Hong Kong for most of her working career.
