To systematically support the Belt and Road Initiative and the green transition of the Global South, HKUST (GZ) co-established the Greater Bay Area Global Green Innovation Academy with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment in 2024, and has built exchanges and cooperation with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. In autumn 2026, the University will launch training programs for government leaders of Global South nations in partnership with the China International Development Cooperation Agency. Between 2026 and 2027, a series of forums on African development will also be held to align with the 2027 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, jointly exploring new models for coordinated development across the Global South.

This thematic event --Symposium on GeoAI for Sustainable Cities in the Global South, organized by the Urban Governance and Design Thrust, is part of a series of initiatives advancing academic research, international exchanges, and practical cooperation concerning the Global South.
