The siloed, highly specialized approach to strategic management is ill-fitted to support firms that operate in an era of global supply chains, rising commodity prices and demands for enhanced sustainability. Resource Kaizen represents the new paradigm where systems thinking, circularity and closed loop practices and behavioural modifications and nudges give rise to new strategies for enhancing productivity and profitability. In this session, Prof. Scott Valentine, Associate Dean of Sustainability and Urban Planning will provide participants with insights into three tools for enhancing productivity: systems redesign, closed loop planning and nudges. Scott coordinates a team of senior professors at RMIT who span numerous disciplines (Chemistry, Materials Engineering, Industrial Design, Construction, Planning, and Process Management). The team works directly with industry to provide advice and guidance on how to elevate productivity and profitability through applied practice. As part of his presentation, Scott will talk about how universities can pay a central role in all this.
