Abstract

As a leading figure in LiDAR with a Ph.D. in robotics, Yifan David Li will draw on over a decade of experience in hardware entrepreneurship to share concrete lessons on turning lab breakthroughs into revenue. He will explain why technical innovation only succeeds when engineered in parallel with business design, and demonstrate how focusing on infrastructure creates greater opportunities to build commercial barriers. Additionally, he will compare the innovation playbooks he sees in China versus Silicon Valley, and outline practical steps for running AI-heavy hardware companies as global geopolitics reshape supply chains, funding and market access.

About the Speaker

Dr. Yifan David Li is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hesai Technology (NASDAQ: HSAI; HKEX: 2525), a global leader in LiDAR sensors and autonomous driving solutions. A recognized expert in robotics and motion control, David has been widely acknowledged for his contributions to advancing intelligent mobility through autonomous vehicles and robotics.

Under David’s leadership, Hesai has delivered multiple generations of LiDAR breakthroughs, significantly improving performance while reducing system costs by more than 90 percent over the past decade — a transformation that has made autonomous driving and robotic vision at scale commercially viable.

David holds a Ph.D. in Robotics from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Tsinghua University. Before founding Hesai, he served as a Principal Engineer at Western Digital in Silicon Valley. He is an inventor of more than 100 patents spanning robotics, motion control, sensors, and advanced manufacturing. Dr. Li was awarded Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum for the Class of 2021.

Outside of work, David is an avid basketball enthusiast.

在李博士的戰略引領下，禾賽科技實現了多代激光雷達技術的突破性反覆運算。 過去十年間，公司在大幅提升產品性能、拓展應用場景同時，將系統成本降低逾90%，這一關鍵變革為自動駕駛與機器人視覺技術的規模化商業落地築牢了根基。
