About the Speakers
Dr. Ben LAU is a Quantitative Researcher and Portfolio Manager at Alphadyne Asset Management. Dr Lau started his career at Barclays Capital as a Rate Derivative Structurer and Exotic Interest Rate Trader in London. He later joined Complus Asset Management as a Quantitative Researcher focusing on Asian Macro EM FX and Rates. In 2018, Dr Lau joined Shell Street Labs and led a team looking to deploy advanced AI/Machine Learning Methods in Trading and Portfolio Management.
Dr. Lau graduated from CUHK with a BSc in Physics (First Class Honour) in 2001 and received a PhD in Particle Physics from Princeton University in 2006.
Mr. Michael CHAN is a full-time graduate of the 2024 MSc(DDM) Program and has joined Alphadyne Asset Management as a quantitative researcher, following a successful summer internship with the company. Before his time at DDM, Michael worked at the engineering consultancy Ove Arup and Partners after earning his Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from HKU in 2018. Currently, he is collaborating with Dr. Ben Lau on systematic portfolio construction.
