SYNOPSIS:
Who would have thought that behind a café on the busy Lai Chi Kok Road, there would be a tiny galaxy of music? Wontonmeen – an eclectic hostel – is known to independent musicians and jazz artists as an intimate place for music-sharing. Hong Kong Sinfonietta (HKS) entered the game in mid-2020 when Concertmaster James Cuddeford visited the space. Despite the heat, the humidity and a piano which needed some help, James was completely taken by the place. HKS has since recorded 10 episodes of “Tiny Galaxy Concerts@Wontonmeen”, though only half has been shown online.

“All-Star Tiny Galaxy@Wontonmeen” is a special extended edition featuring international stars performing at Wontonmeen, including Christoph Poppen, Aurélien Pascal, Adrien La Marca, Sergei Nakariakov and Perry So, who join James and star pianist Colleen Lee. We also get to know more about the historical gem that is Shamshuipo, and the talented young artist Vivian Ho, who created a few images of “tiny galaxies” for us.

深水埗，一個人煙稠密的香港舊區，近年被開發成尋寶之地與文青聚腳點。在這樣一個龍蛇混雜、卻又充滿傳奇的社區，有一家可愛又貼地的小旅館「Wontonmeen」。疫情期間，年輕旅人不再步履輕盈，說飛就飛；由是，香港小交響樂團首席格德霍特聯同指揮家兼小提琴大師柏鵬、大提琴家柏斯卡爾、中提琴家拉•馬爾卡、小號演奏家納卡里亞科夫與鋼琴家李嘉齡等多位國際音樂人進駐「Wontonmeen」，在煩囂城中，一個懷舊又帶點書卷氣，狹小而親密的空間，忘形地演奏動人的室樂篇章。看著音樂家們眉飛色舞，和聲演奏──股掌之間，原來可以泛起一個跨越時空的音樂小宇宙。
