This talk will explore the changes in undergraduate medical education. The shift from a Flexnerian model, teacher focused to an integrated, learner-focused, outcome-based curriculum. There is an increasing emphasis on teacher training, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate arena.  The purpose is to raise the quality of teaching and learning, and to reinforce evidence-based medical education practice.

The education principles underpinning module and curriculum design will be described. The strengths and weaknesses of different conceptual models will be explored with examples. The new medical school at HKUST takes on graduate students only. Which approach would be better, andragogical (adult learning), pedagogical (children learning) or mixed? What does it mean in module delivery?

The audience are encouraged to share their experiences, learned from each other in this semi-structured facilitated session.
