IP Seminar - Essential Patent Knowledge for Researchers
To succeed as an inventor, one must know what to research, and how much time and money to spend on a particular research project. To help with this, it is critical to understand two aspects of an invention:
- What part of an invention can be protected, and
- How can that part of the invention be valued?
This seminar will discuss the inventive process, and the mechanics of deriving the above using HKUST tools available to university members.
James Haynes was an oil and gas explorationist before becoming a U.S. patent attorney licensed in Texas in 1999. In 2024 he helped found Tee & Howe IP Attorneys, a Chinese IP firm based in Beijing. Mr. Haynes works with international clients assisting them with all matters of intellectual property. He has been giving seminars to HKUST students and faculty for over 15 years with the aim of improving University inventiveness.
