Human, AI, and Policy: Experimental Studies on Collaborative Decision-Making in Transportation

How can we better understand and improve collaborative decision-making in transportation? This talk presents two experimental studies on multi-stakeholder games. The first investigates how AI and humans differ in their decision-making during daily collaborative tasks. The second explores a behavioral approach to sustainability—specifically, how downward social comparison can strengthen carbon inclusion policies, supported by laboratory evidence. Together, these studies serve as a springboard for a larger discussion: the motivations, guiding principles, and pathways for transforming transportation research in the age of AI.

Prof. Zheng Zhu

Professor, Assistant Department Head, epartment of Civil Engineering at Zhejiang University

Prof. Zheng Zhu, “Hundred Talents Program” Professor, Assistant Department Head in the Department of Civil Engineering at Zhejiang University. Dr. Zhu is focusing on research questions in Transportation Human-AI Evolution. Dr. Zhu has been studying and working at Tsinghua University, University of Maryland, Maryland National Transportation Center, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He has won the national young scholar honor, is the principal investigator of 1 China NNSF project, 1 Hong Kong RGC GRF project, and 1 Zhejiang Province NSF project. He has published over 70 SCI papers in top transportation journals such as iScience IEEE TITS, TR Part B, TR Part C, and TR Part E. Dr. Zhu serves as an editorial board member in Communications in Transportation Research, Scientific Reports, and Transport Policy (Guest Editor).
