Single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted significant attention due to their unique nanostructures and exceptional properties. However, commercially available CNTs typically contain a mixture of tens of different chiralities, which limit their applications in advanced technologies. To address this challenge, we leverage the sequence-dependent interactions between DNA and CNTs, allowing for the selective recognition of CNTs with specific chiralities. This approach enables the efficient separation of over 20 distinct types of single-chirality CNTs (scCNTs). These well-defined scCNTs exhibit enhanced properties compared to chirality-mixed CNTs. More importantly, by precisely controlling the ordered DNA structures assembling on scCNTs, we design DNA-scCNT hybrids with tailored functionalities. These materials have led to promising applications across various fields. This presentation will focus on: (1) the technological innovations and mechanisms behind scCNT separation using DNA; (2) the application of DNA-scCNTs in biosensing and disease diagnostics; (3) the development of organic quantum materials using DNA-scCNTs.
