Sunshine Action Fortune Bag Packing Event

[This is a student-initiated event]

Sunshine Action is a Hong Kong-based Non-Profit Charity that frequently organizes fortune bag and street-sleepers events to help underprivileged groups, including low-income families, the elderly in poverty, and street-sleepers. The organization has worked with more than 100 high schools and universities directly to organize packing events.

A group of HKUST students initiated a fortune bag packing event with Sunshine Action on campus, hoping to motivate more students to take further action in community work.

The event consists of two main parts:

Information Session: Learn more about underprivileged communities in Hong Kong, such as low-income families, the elderly in poverty, street-sleepers, and how they are supported by different organizations (HKSKH, The Salvation Army, etc). Students will learn about the impact of Sunshine Action’s fortune bag and street-sleeper programs, which are led by students. 

Packing Fortune Bags: Spend about 2 hours together packing food items into a total of 500 bags, which will be received and distributed by the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council. Students will have the opportunity to make an impact whilst working and socializing with new friends.
