"Jazz Valentine Across Times" is a heartfelt celebration of love through the timeless and universal language of jazz. Held on the eve of Valentine’s Day 2026, the concert bridges the rich heritage and evolving creativity of Hong Kong’s jazz scene, featuring a blend of original compositions and beloved jazz standards. This concert is a tribute to the emotional depth and enduring connections that jazz inspires—echoing love stories that transcend time and generations.
This special collaboration brings together Fountain de Chopin, Hong Kong’s dynamic collective of passionate young musicians enriching the local jazz culture; and the acclaimed jazz pianist Ted Lo. Together, they craft a captivating sonic dialogue that intertwines fresh perspectives with cherished traditions, honoring the soul of jazz while breathing new life into its legacy.

是次演出由本地年輕、致力推動香港推動爵士普及的團體翻騰三周半(Fountain de Chopin),與香港著名爵士鋼琴家 羅尚正(Ted Lo) 共同呈獻。兩代音樂人透過旋律展開對話,在傳承爵士靈魂的同時,為經典注入嶄新生命。

Fountain de Chopin

Fountain de Chopin is a vibrant jazz collective based in Hong Kong, dedicated to promoting jazz as a way of life in the city. Committed to preserving the rich history of jazz while also encouraging original compositions and experimentation, the group regularly organises workshops, masterclasses, and performances for students and music enthusiasts.
Fountain de Chopin's music ranges from classic jazz standards to contemporary original jazz and free jazz. Their performances are dynamic and energetic, featuring skilled improvisation and tight ensemble playing.
In addition to their performances, the collective is also involved in community outreach efforts. They work with local organisations to bring jazz to underserved communities and promote the social and cultural benefits of the music genre.
Below are the musicians from Fountain de Chopin who will perform in the concert:
- Bowen Li (Keys)
A prominent pianist and composer in Hong Kong’s new generation of jazz musicians, Bowen Li leads a traditional acoustic jazz trio. His debut album “Unemployed” received critical acclaim for its authentic exploration of piano trio jazz, drawing influence from Brad Mehldau and Robert Glasper. He is also a founding member of Fountain de Chopin, dedicated to growing the local jazz scene, and is known for his creative improvisation and dedication to advancing jazz in Hong Kong.
- Nelson Fung (Double Bass)
A versatile double bassist skilled in classical, jazz, and experimental music, Nelson Fung co-founded Fountain de Chopin, a jazz collective and venue focused on nurturing Hong Kong jazz talent. He actively performs across genres and leads his own band, mixing modern jazz with inspirations from Hong Kong poetry. He is a key figure in driving jazz awareness and innovation locally.
- Dean Li (Drums)
A professional drummer highly active in Hong Kong’s music scene, Dean Li has collaborated with numerous prominent artists including Ted Lo and Bowen Li. He also works with various arts organizations and local pop acts, showcasing his adaptability and solid rhythmic expertise. He provides a sophisticated and energized foundation for jazz ensembles.
- Michael Chan (Guitar)
A Hong Kong-based guitarist known for his rich tone and versatility, Michael Chan is a key figure in the city’s jazz circuits. He co-founded the Michael Chan Quintet, showcasing some of Hong Kong’s most promising young jazz talents. His fluency in jazz improvisation and dynamic playing enriches every ensemble he joins.
- Brian Cheung (Saxophone)
Starting classical saxophone training at age 10, Brian Cheung is an emerging saxophonist contributing to the growing popularity of jazz in Hong Kong. His performances bring strong technical skill and passionate expression, adding depth to live jazz experiences locally.
- Timothy Wan (Saxophone)
A seasoned saxophonist with over seven years of teaching experience, Timothy Wan holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz from the University of Auckland. He is known for his bebop mastery and active involvement in Hong Kong’s jazz community as a performer and educator. He emphasizes both musical excellence and jazz tradition in his work.
Ted Lo
Known as the godfather of Hong Kong jazz, Ted Lo was the first Chinese graduate of Berklee College of Music in 1976. He began his career in the 1970s U.S. jazz scene, recording and performing with notable musicians such as Herbie Hancock and Astrud Gilberto. After spending over a decade in the U.S., performing at top venues and jazz festivals worldwide, he returned to Hong Kong in 1996, where he has profoundly influenced the local jazz community through both performance and education. He actively mentors young musicians and champions jazz culture in Hong Kong.
