AIS Sustainability Seminar Series - Harnessing a Market-Driven Approach to Sustainable Forestry

9:00am - 10:30am
Room 6573 (Lift 29-30)

Forests play a crucial role in the global economy, contributing over USD 1.5 trillion annually to global GDP. They also provide essential ecosystem services, including carbon sequestration, clean air, water cycle regulation, and support for biodiversity. However, 90% of deforestation and forest degradation is attributed to agricultural expansion driven by human consumption demands. The Forest Stewardship Council®(FSC®) promotes responsible sourcing to protect the world's forests in the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss. As global accords and trade regulations mandating sustainable supply chains emerge, prioritizing forest conservation and promoting sustainable forest economies is essential for fostering a resilient and thriving global ecosystem.
