Public Research Seminar by LASERi-SEE Joint - Research on the Application of Low-cost and High-efficiency UAV Suitable for Low Altitude Flight

9:30am - 10:30am
E4-101, Guangzhou campus (Zoom ID: 917 6697 5159, Password: 241119)

2024 is known as the year of low altitude economy, therefore, the seminar tries to explore low-cost and high-efficiency UAV configurations suitable for low altitude flight.

The seminar mainly contains four parts.

Firstly, similar to the development history of highway economy, the future development of low altitude economy is divided into three stages, and the challenges and difficulties faced by low altitude flight are proposed.

Secondly, educational background and work experience will be briefly introduced. And theoretical analysis, computational validation and flight test on inflatable wing and tandem-wing configurations will be displayed.

Thirdly, three feasible solutions for future low altitude flight are provided, including eVTOL with tilt duct/rotor, UAV modified from manned helicopter, and buoyancy-lifting integrated aircraft.

Finally, the issues that require special attention in the future development of low altitude aircraft are summarized.

Speakers / Performers:
Qing Zhang
China North Industries Corporation–Xi’an Center

Dr. Zhang was born in Xiangyang City, Hubei Province in central China in Oct. 1987. In 2007, he was admitted into the School of Aeronautics at Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xi'an. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Flight Vehicle Design and Engineering in 2011, a Master's degree in Fluid Mechanics in 2014, and a doctorate degree in Aerodynamics in 2018. During his study in NPU, he was awarded the National Scholarship for Doctoral Students by the Chinese Ministry of Education twice.

After graduation, Dr. Zhang has worked in various universities and aircraft research companies as an aircraft designer, and he is currently the chief aircraft designer at NORINCO Group in Xi'an, he works on improving the survivability of special vehicles by combining UAV and developing low-cost UAV for logistic supporting in low altitude.

Dr. Zhang has authored/co-authored four academic books, mainly on flapping and rotary aerodynamics analysis, and has published 20 research articles. His research interests include unsteady aerodynamics, flight dynamics and their applications in aircraft design, and more recently, as low altitude economy is becoming a powerful engine driving the development of eVTOLs, he has been dedicated to exploring novel advanced aircraft configuration suitable for low-altitude flight.
