With the rapid development of Internet videos, various challenges for networks and systems have arisen, especially in the areas of mobility and analytics efficiency. This talk attempts to explore how AI-driven online video optimization could assist addressing these challenges from a variety of perspectives, ranging from video caching and adaptive video streaming delivery to video analytics. I will present some of our recent efforts in this area, and discuss how combining techniques such as AI, network optimization, and big data analytics, will pave the way for the future developments of these areas.
Xiaoming Fu is an IEEE Fellow and an ACM Distinguished Member. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science at Tsinghua University in 2000. He then worked as a research scientist at the Technical University Berlin, Germany, before joining the faculty of the University of Göttingen in 2002, where he was appointed as a Chair Professor of Computer Science in 2007, and founding director of its Computer Networks Group and the Sino-German Institute of Social Computing. He has held visiting professorships at Columbia University, UCLA, Cambridge University, Uppsala University, UPMC, University of Sydney, Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, Fudan University, and Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research interests include Internet and cloud computing, mobile/edge computing, smart cities, and social big data analytics. He currently serves as an associate editor of IEEE Network and IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management, and founding co-editor-in-chief of Journal of Social Computing.
