Chinese cities have experienced unprecedent developments especially expansion over the past decades. Concurrently one has witnessed the revolutionary changes of the transport infrastructure in the cities especially the development of rail transit network and mobility transformation. In this seminar I shall discuss the implications of such changes for people’s daily trip making in terms of changes in travel time, travel distance, transport mode use, etc. Shenzhen, a pioneer in China’s economic reform and urban development, will be the empirical case to demonstrate the relationships between the changes. Further, Hong Kong shall be used as a reference case to contextualize the changes.
