With the rapid advancement of geospatial technologies and spatial data, the relationship between environmental exposure and health outcome has become a key focus in health research. Factors such as air pollution, noise, and access to green space have significant impacts on the risk of chronic diseases. Health geography, as an emerging interdisciplinary field, leverages geographic information systems (GIS) and spatial analysis to assess individual and population-level exposures across space and time. This talk will focus on spatial modelling and analysis of environmental exposure, drawing on real-world research examples. It will explore how high-resolution data, along with geospatial modelling and techniques can reveal complex relationships between the environment and health, and how deeper integration between geographic information science and public health can help tackle pressing health challenges.
Yuchen Li is a Lecturer in Urban Data Science in the School of Geography at the University of Leeds and a member of the Institute for Spatial Data Science (ISDS) research cluster. He earned his PhD in Geography from The Ohio State University, USA. He is also an alumnus of the Center for Urban and Regional Analysis (CURA) at Ohio State. Prior to joining Leeds, Yuchen worked as a Research Associate at the MRC Epidemiology Unit, University of Cambridge. Yuchen’s research sits at the intersection of environmental health, urban data science, and transportation modelling. He applies cutting-edge methods in geographic information science and statistical modelling to address pressing public health challenges in urban systems.
