The community is the sanctuary of the individual. With the promotion of 15-minute community life circle and complete community, as well as the implementation of Healthy China strategy, community healing has become an important theme in community planning and design to promote individual physical and mental health. This presentation will discuss the current state of research and progress in the community healing environment, including some recent research by the Lab408 Group, and its implications for planning and design.

Prof. Leiqing Xu
Tongji University

Prof. Leiqing Xu was born in Shanghai. He graduated from Tongji University and obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Master's Degree in Engineering and Doctoral Degree in Engineering from College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP) of Tongji University. He is currently the responsible professor of the architectural design methodology team in CAUP of Tongji University, and the supervisor of doctoral students, as well as a first-class registered architect. Professor Leiqing Xu is also the Director of the Urban Renewal Center of the National Institute of Modernization at Tongji University. He is also a member of the Community Construction Committee of the Science and Technology Commission of the Ministry of Housing and Construction, Deputy Director of the Environmental Behavior Academic Committee of the Architectural Society of China, Deputy Director of the Urban Transformation and Innovation Research Committee of the Urban Science Society of China, and Deputy Director of the Ecological and Environmental Psychology Committee of the Chinese Society of Social Psychology, as well as a member of the Editorial Board of the Architectural Science Review of the United Kingdom.

 

Prof. Leiqing Xu has presided over four projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and one project of National Major R&D Program. He won the second prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award in 2004, the first prize of planning and design of Shanghai Urban Planning Association in 2017, and the first prize of planning and design of China Urban Planning Association in 2017. He has published more than 200 papers in domestic and international journals and conferences. He is an important scholar and representative of the relationship between urban spatial environment and behavior, psychology, and body in China, and one of the scholars with the highest H-index in the field of architecture and urban design in China.

 

Prof. Leiqing Xu is deeply involved in urban and community renewal in contemporary China and is a renowned thinker, researcher and designer in this field. His research touches on important themes of humanized urban space, including vitality, health, aesthetics, satisfaction and safety. He has developed a systematic framework for public space design for urban restoration and health healing in the areas of urban and neighborhood renewal, community living circles, and street and public space design. He has also led or participated in many influential projects in public space, street design and community living circle planning in China.
