Dr. Erik Fung is currently Clinical Associate Professor at HKUST, and Consultant in Cardiology at CUHK Medical Centre, Hong Kong SAR. He is a cardiologist and clinician-scientist. He obtained his MBChB from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, PhD from the University of Cambridge, and MD(Res) from Imperial College London. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease (cardiology), the National Board of Echocardiography, and the Heart Failure Association of European Society of Cardiology. He is a registered Specialist in Cardiology in Hong Kong, and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP). While Dr. Fung's clinical practice is centered on general cardiology and management of heart failure/cardiomyopathy, he also has practical expertise in sports cardiology, cardiorespiratory exercise stress testing, and pre-participation cardiovascular evaluation of competitive athletes. He is a co-author of the Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology's Consensus Recommendations for Pre-participation Screening in Young Competitive Athletes (2021), and is an Associate Editor of Open Heart (BMJ). His research interests include heart failure/function, cardiomyopathy, and sports cardiology.
