Social Science Seminar - Rising Authoritarianism in Southeast Asia and Contextualizing China’s Influence

10:30am - 12:00pm
Online Via Zoom

China has been featured prominently in recent literature on authoritarian resilience around the world. Specifically in Southeast Asia, as the region most economically intertwined with China and geographically proximate, there is a long list of allegations on how China has spread influence on the persistence of authoritarianism in the region. This talk provides an overview on modes of such influences and contextualizes both the intended and unintended dimensions of China’s complex presence in Southeast Asia.
