One-day workshop - Nanomechanics of defects, metastructures and composites
The evolution of modern technologies strongly relies on the discovery and development of new materials. For both structural and functional materials, the mechanical properties, deformation mechanisms and structural stability are the foundation in the practical application. By tailoring the macro/micro/nano/atomic structures, researchers developed materials on the brink.
As more and more novel materials are discovered and reported, people start noticing that the theories of mechanics play a profound role during the supreme property exploration. The structure – property relationships are theorized for the crystals and metamaterials development. Through state-of-the art structural characterization, researchers obtained rationalized understanding of heterophase boundaries, 1D/2D crystal defects crossing length scales. Meanwhile, researchers developed continuum models and MD simulations for crystal plasticity, deformation twinning and dislocation motions.
This one-day workshop will gather Hong Kong researchers working on experimental and theoretical areas of mechanics and material science. We exchange our ideas and share our recent works, so that the HK theoretical and applied mechanics and material science community can foster crossing-institute collaboration in future.
