This session will focus on what every founder, investor, or startup executive needs to know about intellectual property. The topics to be discussed will provide a general understanding of intellectual property (IP) and the different forms it may take, real world examples of each type of intellectual property, a discussion of how IP can be used to help the business, how IP strategy can be aligned with and be used to support various business goals, optimal filing timing and strategies, how to manage IP risks, and how to leverage your IP portfolio to enhance funding efforts for your company.
JOSHUA B. GOLDBERG is the Partner-in-Charge of the Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Department of Nath, Goldberg & Meyer. Mr. Goldberg’s practice involves portfolio management and analysis, including the preparation, prosecution, and acquisition of U.S. and foreign patents across a wide range of technology areas. His current practice places a particular emphasis on the chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and mechanical art areas, with particular emphasis on pharmaceutical, agriculture, and alternative energy technologies. He also advises corporate, university, and independent clients in such areas as the development of offensive and defensive patent portfolios, the preparation of patent enforceability and invalidity opinions, and in freedom to operate searches and analysis. Mr. Goldberg particularly enjoys helping universities and start-ups build patent portfolios for licensing and commercialization purposes.
