HKUST MSc in Data-Driven Modeling - Expert Sharing Seminar by Prof. Shuo-Yen Robert LI

3:00pm - 4:30pm
Chen Kuan Cheng Forum (Lecture Theatre H), HKUST

We are excited to have Prof. Shuo-Yen Robert LI share the topic "Implementation techniques of Network coding"Prof. Bob Li a Distinguished University Professor & Director of Li Institute of Mathematical Technology of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC).

Network coding (NC) means algebraic data mixing at intersection of transmission paths. This paradigm of data transport guarantees optimal throughput and is to replace the traditional way of store-and-forward. This is an introductory talk that stresses on techniques, mostly unpublished before, for efficient implementation. For the benefit of the audience, many examples will be on data handling. The talk also introduces a systematic way for exploring new applications of NC.

All are welcome to join.

Details are as follows.

Date: 8 February 2023 (Wednesday)

Time: 3 - 4:30 pm

Venue: Chen Kuan Cheng Forum (Lecture Theatre H), HKUST

Host: Prof. Bei Zeng, Professor, Department of Physics, HKUST

About the Speakers

Prof. Bob Li is the founder of network coding theory, algebraic switching theory, and martingales of patterns. Now the Distinguished University Professor and Director of Li Institute of Mathematical Technology at UESTC, he is also an Honorary Professor at Xidian University, Harbin Engineering University, UESTC, Southwest Jiaotong University, and Xiamen University. He holds 35 US patents. He taught at MIT, UI Chicago, and CUHK during 1974-2014 and received various awards from IEEE, ACM, The Chinese Institute of Electronics, and ITRI. Along with the lifetime endeavor of bridging between math and engineering, he currently advocates科教文艺.
