Our third webinar of the entrepreneurship fireside chat series features Dr. Zhang Yunfei, HKUST alumnus and President & Founder of Zhuhai Yunzhou Intelligence Technology Ltd, China’s first unmanned surface vehicles (USV) company. Established by Yunfei and his HKUST classmates in 2010 while he was still a PhD student, Yunzhou has grown to be a unicorn with 400+ staff nationwide and a global market leader in the innovation and integration of USV technology for marine survey industry. A visionary adventurer, Yunfei will share his experience and inspiration in venturing into this new and unexplored intelligent unmanned vessels industry throughout his decade-long entrepreneurship journey.

Yunfei is the Founder and President of Zhuhai Yunzhou Intelligence Technology Ltd. He is a Council Member of the Chinese Association of Youth Scientists and Technologists, Council Member of the Chinese Society of Oceanography, and Executive Director of China Youth Entrepreneurs Association. He won the championship in the China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in 2013 and was elected one of the “Hundred Elite of World Youth Innovation” in 2014.
Yunfei received his MPhil and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from HKUST in 2009 and 2020 respectively. He has embarked on unmanned surface vehicles research since he began his PhD study at HKUST.

Jack Lau is currently the Chairman of Swanland.AI. He is our first HKUST PhD graduate, a professor and an entrepreneur.
Upon graduation of his BS and MS degrees, Jack subsequently worked at Hewlett Packard, Schlumberger, and a start-up in Silicon Valley. In 1999, Jack started Perception Digital, a company providing digital signal processor-based turn-key solutions to a number of Fortune 500 companies and technology leaders. Perception Digital eventually went public on the main board at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Jack also served as the Chairman and CEO of the company.
Jack is a recipient of the Ten Most Outstanding Young Persons in Hong Kong (2000), Young Industrialist Award (2005), and Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The Year 2009 China award. In 2010, he was bestowed an Honorary Fellowship at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
