Max Hattler: Experimental Animation between Art and Technology
In this presentation, Max Hattler gives an insight into his artistic practice and research in experimental animation, video installation and audiovisual performance. Through a discussion of early works like the War on Terror-abstraction Collision (2005), recent Hong Kong-made films Divisional Articulations (2017) and Serial Parallels (2019), and the brand-new immersive stereoscopic installation Vœrtex (2020), Hattler delineates the ways in which his moving image works navigate and probe the complex relationships between art and technology, sound and image, movement and meaning, and abstraction and figuration.
Tianran Duan: Genealogical study of Experimental Animation
Experimental animation as an unique film genre has its profound roots to Avant-garde film history and modernism art movement. Different from aesthetic critique, experimental animation study also raises discussion of elitist ideology via perceptional experiments. Genealogical study of experimental animation will talk about the methodology of cinema apparatus including media archaeology, visual culture study and cinema-alien.
