About HKUST Community Musical

The HKUST musical holds a significant place in the hearts of music and drama enthusiasts in the HKUST community. It serves as a platform that brings together the creative talents of passionate students, dedicated staff and accomplished alumni, resulting in the outstanding production of Broadway musicals.

In 2021, HKUST unveiled the stunning Shaw Auditorium—a cutting-edge venue that has redefined the performing arts landscape on campus. With this exciting development, the Shaw Auditorium Unit proudly brought back the musical The Music Man in March 2024, extending its reach to the broader community.  Building on this success, the Shaw Auditorium Unit will continue to uphold the legacy of the musical tradition for the HKUST Community. 

Under the co-direction of veteran musical director and instructor Mandy PETTY, and faculty member in the Division of Humanities and operatic bass-baritone Isaac DROSCHA, the HKUST Community Musical 2025: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, proudly showcases an exceptional cast of performers, including HKUST students, staff, and alumni. Their involvement has been instrumental in the success of the production, and their participation is eagerly anticipated. 

We are thrilled to present this witty, award-winning production that features an array of quirky characters, vibrant music, and innovative staging. Scheduled to enchant audiences at the Shaw Auditorium from March 21-23, 2025, this show promises a delightful fusion of humor, heartwarming moments, and engaging melodies, offering a truly unforgettable theatrical experience suitable for all ages.

Ticketing Information  

Ticket reservations start mid-January 2025. Stay tuned for updates!

Remarks

• Performed in English with Chinese and English surtitles.

• Children under 6 will not be admitted.

• Audience is recommended to arrive 15 minutes before the performance starts. Latecomers will only be admitted at a suitable break.

• The organizer reserves the right to make changes to the program, performers and seating arrangement. In case of dispute, the decision of the organizer shall be final.
