自從《帝女花》於1957年6月首演後，它被公認是香港粵劇的經典，尤其以它的曲折劇情、悅耳唱段和對劇中人的細膩刻劃備受推崇。上演唐滌生的原作往往需要4小時以上，5月5日在科大逸夫演藝中心演出的精緻版只保留原劇的精髓，並預計在兩小時內完成。是次演出由當代粵劇大師阮兆輝出任藝術總監，並由千珊、靈音、沈栢銓等幾位專業演員領導十二位初踏台板的科大學生參演，攜手締造歷史。

Since its premiere in June 1957, The Floral Princess has been acclaimed as a Cantonese opera classic thanks to its dramatic plot, tuneful music and fine portrayal of the characters. While performance of the full version extends to over 4 hours, this abridged and refined version only retains the essential details and will be concluded within 2 hours. The show to be held on 5th May at Shaw Auditorium will also feature twelve students from UST, along with a group of professional actors who play the major roles.
