Development of Key Performance Indicators for Society 5.0 Smart Cities through Logic Models

10:30am - 12:00pm
Zoom

In Japan, the government has focused on smart cities as a national growth strategy, and many projects are in progress. The fundamental principle of smart cities is Society 5.0, which stands for sustainability, cyber-physical integration, and people-centered cities. How well are the principles of Society 5.0 being realized in each city? To measure each city’s progress, we need evaluation indicators and KPIs that incorporate the principles of Society 5.0. However, each city has set its own indicators for project progress, so it is difficult to know how much the city is growing from the perspective of Society 5.0. In 2022, H-UTokyoLab. (Hitachi and UTokyo joint research), to which I belong, collaborated with the Cabinet Office to develop smart city evaluation indicators that include the perspective of Society 5.0 and has proposed guidelines for each city to set its KPIs. In this seminar, we will introduce the concept of these smart city evaluation indicators based on logic models and discuss critical issues and challenges.
